Restorations
Keeping the deck in good condition is essential to the boat’s overall condition. Protecting it from water and corrosion, for example, is vital to maintaining the boat’s value. However, there are only a few situations where a complete deck replacement is necessary.
If enough wood is left, it may be advisable to re-caulk the seams and lightly sand the battens. This will give an old teak deck a fresh, golden look.
How to care for a teak wood deck
Although teak is rigid, it must be treated carefully. The deck should not be cleaned with overly aggressive two-part acid teak cleaners. Two-part cleaners will clean the teak, but they also eat away the light-colored soft grain of the wood, leaving the darker-colored grain and the overall surface with a rough washboard effect.
